Well hopefully this will kill some time
Okay so I just renewed my licences, concealed arms, rifles, etc etc. Decided to start keeping a track of all the guns I've tried out.
This week I'm trying a Colt 1911, classic. A lot of my friends in the police like it for reliability and general power of the guns bullets.
The cartridge, .45 ACP, they seem nice. I'm used to higher calibres so I almost instinctively readied my arm in when it shot up from the the recoil, ended up hurting my wrist a little. Once I forgot about the bruising I tried to get use to the low recoil of the gun and it felt kinda nice actually. I still like large calibres so I won't be making too many changes.
Its much lighter than my own revolvers as well. I'm used to slugging around my twin revolvers which are about 2.3kg and 2.1kg...This 1911 barely weighs a kilogram and it feels like I'm lifting nothing at all, compared to my beasty revolvers...It occurs to me that if someone reads this, they'll think I'm compensating...
While I was at the firing range, I heard two people arguing over which were better, armour piercing rounds or overpressure. I've always like jacketed hollow points to be quite frank.
Didn't get involved until one of them started holding the gun wrong; his thumb was going to get battered by the slide and the hammer. He ended up running away like a child going to sulk after being told off. I'd be lying if I said I didn't find it utterly hilarious
9 rounds per magazine isn't bad but apparently it's not so great anymore. I can sort of agree, if I were in a firefight, I'd need more than that to lay a level of suppressive fire.
I've been told the gun is very hardy, being durable and hard to damage to the point it can't fire. I don't think I could personally damage it enough to find out for myself but most people say its pretty tough.
On another note, the sights are very good. Simple and small so its easy to line up the shots.
After I had shot maybe 45 rounds out of the thing, I went and talked with some of the other guys. Turns out a lot of them have 1911s of their own, and they seem to really like customising them though I found the gold plating and diamond sights on that rich guy's, was a bit... "Much" for my standards.
Maybe I should get one or two myself, they go for pretty cheap. If I hunt around the markets and personals in the newspaper, I might be able to track down an original from Colt rather than a copy made by someone else.
All in all, a nice handgun, no wonder its had 100 years of use and production.
This was actually quite fun to write. Think I'll definitely do it again...Once I figure out a gun to use; so many choices its hard to pin just one... Maybe a carbine or a personal defence weapon...
